Walking and cycling
The Auvergne is a wonderful destination for anyone who enjoys being outdoors. In the region you will find hundreds of hiking trails, marked routes and quiet country roads. You walk through green valleys, forests and meadows, with beautiful views along the way and plenty of opportunity to discover the local flora and fauna. Cyclists will also get their money’s worth here. Explore the area on quiet roads or opt for a sporty tour through the hilly landscape. Mountain bikers can look for forest paths and more challenging routes.
Whether you opt for a short walk or a long bike ride: nature is always close by.
Discover the volcanoes
The Auvergne is known for its special volcanic landscape. The Chaîne des Puys consists of a long series of old volcanoes and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
One of the best known is the Puy-de-Dôme. From the top you enjoy an impressive view of the surrounding volcanoes and the green landscape. You can reach the top by panoramic train or on foot.
The Puy-de-Pariou and the higher Puy de Sancy are also special destinations for nature lovers and hikers.
A visit to the volcanoes is a great way to discover the special nature and history of the Auvergne.
Discover towns and villages
In addition to nature, the Auvergne also has a lot to offer in terms of culture, history and conviviality. Visit small French villages with old streets and local markets, or venture out to one of the cities in the region.
Clerrmont-Ferrand is known for its dark cathedral of volcanic rock, historic center and Michelin history. There are also museums, shops and charming squares to discover.

The regional products of the Auvergne are also worth discovering. The region is known for its cheeses, such as Bleu d’Auvergne and Saint-Nectaire, but also for local wines, artisanal products and other regional specialties.
