Are you staying at Camping La Chaize? Then the village is a nice place to leave the campsite and experience the area up close.
The village with a long history
Gouttières has a history that goes back centuries. Archaeological finds in the area indicate that this area was already inhabited in ancient times. The village also played a role in the region in the Middle Ages. The Saint-Pierre church is already mentioned in a document from 1165. The village has changed over the centuries, but its rural character has been retained.
Anyone who walks through Gouttières will discover a piece of France where village life and history are closely linked. It is precisely the combination of old buildings, rural roads and the surrounding landscape that makes a visit interesting.
On a journey of discovery past the cats
One of the nicest surprises of Gouttières are the cats that you can encounter in various places in the village.
With the art project Les Chats de Gouttières, the village has been enriched with images, works of art and other creative cat figures. You will find murals and art in different shapes and sizes.
The project gives the village its own character and makes a walk through the streets extra fun. So take a good look around you: you might discover a cat in a place where you don’t expect it!
It is a fun activity for young and old and a great opportunity to explore the village on foot at your leisure.
A beautiful view over the Auvergne
Near Gouttières is the Montagard hill, with the Notre-Dame-des-Blés chapel on top of the hill.
The chapel is connected to an old local tradition in which farmers had grain stalks blessed in the hope of a good harvest. The chapel was built on the hill in the 1950s.
The hill is especially special because of the view. In clear weather you can look out over a large part of the Puy-de-Dôme landscape from here. You will see the Combrailles, the volcanoes of the Chaîne des Puys and the mountains of the Massif du Sancy.
There is also an orientation table that helps you recognize the different peaks and landscapes.
For those who enjoy walking, views and special places, this is a beautiful destination near the village.
Creativity in a rural village
Gouttières not only has a rural character, but also room for art and creativity. In addition to cat art, there are various artistic initiatives and works of art to discover in and around the village.
Crafts are also part of this region. For example, there is Atelier de la Batisse, where ceramics and pottery are associated with the village.
Those who like to discover small studios, art and local initiatives can look for these special places during a visit. Please check in advance whether a studio is open and whether a visit is possible.
