Puy-de-Dôme, the largest volcano in the Auvernge.
The Puy de Dôme with a height of 1465 meters is not the highest peak in the Auvergne, but speaks
most to the imagination and is certainly the most famous top.
Brave walkers can conquer the Puy de Dôme on foot (about 45 minutes), via the chemin des Muletiers
(starting point Col de Ceyssat, a five minute drive from the station where the train leaves).
You can also take the train to the top and descend on foot (about one and a half hour to get back to your
vehicle to descend).
Puy-de-Dôme is an hour’s drive from the campsite.
The train departure every 40 minutes in season and every 20 minutes in July / August.
At the station of departure is a shop and a snack bar. At the top you will find besides a shop,
a cafeteria and a gourmet restaurant (Le 1911), where you can dine on a high level.
From the top there are numerous hiking trails for trekking or for a round at the top, so you
can enjoy the view and the surrounding volcanoes.
